This transnational project is curated by Christine Gist and is supported using public funding by The National Lottery through Arts Council England’s grants for the arts programme. It is realised in partnership with Claremont Studios CIC, St Leonards-on-Sea and La Plate-Forme Laboratoire d’Art Contemporain, Dunkerque as part of the events for Dunkerque 2013 (DK2013) Capitale régionale de la culture (April-December)

In Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea, the artists will work primarily in thr public space and their interventions/actions can be seen as punctuation points along the coastline’s linearity. In Dunkerque, the artists’ projects will activate empty shops in town centre neighbourhoods.

Decouvrir/Discover

Working with our partner Espace 36 in Saint-Omer, we are developing a project which centres on audience participation with small museums and heritage sites in the South East region and Pas-de-Calais as the research sites for public engagement. Through artists’ interaction with visitors & museum staff, the artists will explore the audience profile, why do they visit & how are sociocultural experiences influenced by regional heritages? The research and engagement will be articulated through new work which results from this interface between artist and audience.

Residency and Exhibition Dates
Greig Burgoyne (UK), Ciara Healy/Karl Musson (UK), Cléa Coudsi/Eric Herbin (FR) and Mary Spencer (FR) were selected to participate in this cross-border residency and exhibitions project. From late July-September 2012, they spent time in both regions developing their work. The artists’ new works were presented at Espace 36, Saint-Omer 17.11-15.12.12 and at Claremont Studios CIC’s project space 2-30.03.13. A 20 page bilingual catalogue accompanies the exhibition.

Decouvrir/Discover is funded by Interreg IVA France (Channel)-England programme and The National Lottery through Arts Council England.
